Climb Every Mountain

Right now I'm in the middle of writing an essay and I'm reflecting on the last few years of my life as well as looking towards the future.

Do you remember the movie The Sound of Music? It's one of my favorite movies. Maria is a young woman who wants to commit her life to the church, but falls in love with a man who is already involved with another women and has a houseful of children. When she realizes her feelings she becomes ashamed and goes to her Reverend Mother asking to take her vows, but the Reverend Mother reminds her that sometimes we must explore every path, and pursue what we love, to find out where God wants us.

Can anyone else identify with that?

There's so much to be said for being with the people you love and doing the things you love--and taking your time figuring out what and who those are.

Climb every mountain,
Search high and low,
Follow every byway,
Every path you know.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
'Till you find your dream.

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life,
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream.

Love God. Love People.
Have a lovely day.

Dining Ettiquite 101

When I was a young lady my parents made me attend cotillion. I have to admit that while this hippie-child hated it then, I did learn a lot and gained some very useful life skills.

I found this and I thought it was a great cheat sheet!

Strawberry-Marscepone Filled Cupcakes

Yesterday was my birthday!

Last night a bunch of my friends and I went out for dinner and had a GREAT night, but I'll do a separate post about my actual birthday next.

THIS POST
is about what we had for dessert...
Strawberry Marscepone Filled Cupcakes

These are too delicious not to share the recipe! So next time you have some friends over or have a celebration, I hope you'll try these out.

They're much easier than they look.
Here's what you need:

1 box of white or french vanilla cake mix (I like Pillsbury/Betty Crocker)
1/2 cup fresh strawberries
8oz mascarpone cheese
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1tsp lemon juice
Vanilla frosting

Directions:

Bake cupcakes according to directions on box

Cut out the centers like so.
If you have a cupcake corer, go for it, but I just used an old fashioned knife.

Photobucket
Next, take the ingredients listed above (sans frosting) and blend in a food processor until it looks like this:

Photobucket
Put mixture into a piping bag or a plastic bag if that's all you have.
Push it down and snip about 1/4-1/2 inch hole out of the bottom with a pair of scissors.
Twist the top and squeeze from there.

Photobucket

Fill cupcakes to top, like so:

Don't worry about making them look pretty, they're just going to get covered with frosting.

I recommend piping the frosting onto the top because otherwise the frosting and filling smear onto the cupcake, but it's a delicious mistake if you want to risk it!

Here's your final product:

Enjoy!

Music City Roots Festival

Last night my beautiful friend Becka and I went to the Music City Roots festival at the Lovelace Cafe.

Photobucket

With the exception of Nickel Creek (I LOVE THEM), I'm not a big bluegrass fan, but the bands who played were SO talented and we had a blast just watching them perform.

Photobucket
We went initially to see Becka's friend's band, Shotgun Party, and they were fabulous.

Photobucket
The night ended with all of the bands jamming to some old Carter Family and Buddy Holly songs.
Afterwards we hung out with Shotgun Party for a little bit and we got free CDs--always a plus.

I love Nashville and all of the cool things always going on here.

Living Social Deal: Whole Foods

I'm all about Groupon and Living Social deals, but I think this might be the best one I've seen in a long time:

We all know that Whole Foods can be a little bit expensive, but getting $10 off your purchase sounds good to me!

10 Years Ago Today -- September 11th

I can't believe it's been ten years since the morning my family and I sat around the TV with tears in our eyes and knots in our stomachs, unable to speak. I remember feeling terrified and trying to understand why or how anyone would ever murder innocent people like this and I still don't.

Right now I'm in tears watching the History Channel and looking at people covered in ashes, lost, confused and dazed after the buildings collapsed. It's very overwhelming.

Now every time I hear the national anthem played I think about seeing that second plane crash into the tower when I hear:
"The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there."

The terrorist attacks on September 11th launched us into a new era that changed our world, but not our resolve.

Praying for peace and love to those who lost loved ones both on that horrible day and in the war against terror. Today especially, may God bless America with peace.

Being Extraordinary

Virgina Wolfe

Virginia Wolfe wrote of her need to kill her "angel in the house." As she wrote, this little angel whispered to her to calling her to write, say and do what only "good" girls should. A good girl does everything that is expected of her. This prevented Virginia from doing the work she felt compelled to do and therefore this angel needed to die.

Over the past few weeks, I've been working on smoking out and killing own my angel.

Like most women, unfortunately, I get this crazy idea in my head that my life needs to be entirely acceptable, if not agreeable, to everyone... ever. I sometimes find myself basing important life decisions on what I think other people would think and not on what I know is right for me. My angel whispers doubts into my mind ears, "What if you fail?" She then reminds me of every person I've ever known that has treated me poorly and suggests, "What would they think? Perhaps you're better off taking it easy and not causing any waves."

But I say, enough with that! I'm ready to make waves and be who God always created me to be, not what my house angel, or any other critic, has to say. Hope you'll do the same and be an extraordinary person no matter what anyone expects of you because that is what you, and I, were meant to be!

Always Oliver

Photobucket

A few weeks ago my dad texted me this picture of our dog, Oliver.
Sweet buddy somehow got into the bathtub, but couldn't get out!
It made me smile and I thought it was too cute not to share!
