Happy New Year!

Although it's technically still New Year's Eve, I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year!
Goodbye to 2010!
Cheers to 2011!

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
This year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

2010 Q&A

As if my last post weren't enough, here's a review of 2010 in a few questions. I stole this from my beautiful friend Becka's blog at The Floating Violinist Let me know if you fill it out too because I'd love to read it! :)

What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Lots of things! I went to an NFL football game, graduated college, was a bridesmaid, took a cake decorating class, saw Hanson, got paid to write, met Donald Miller and other fun things I can't recall at the moment. :)

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any and I'm pretty sure I won't again this year. I never keep that sort of thing. I'm more of a healthy habits over resolutions kind of girl.

What countries did you visit?
Does Alabama count? Just kidding, none.

What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
I don't feel I was lacking in much, but I'd love a little more financial stability and a little more adventure.

What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory?
March 29 and October 30.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I'd say it's a tie between graduating, buying my own car in cash and/or getting the job I wanted.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
My back is messed up and I have obnoxious allergies, but it could be so much worse!

What was the best thing you bought?
Definitely Quicken. It's helped me budget, big time. If you're like me and don't believe in math, you'll love it to. Totally worth the money.

Where did most of your money go?
Books and food

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Buying a car, getting my job, seeing boyfriend again after he was gone all summer.

What song will always remind you of 2010?
F*ck You by Celo Green. SO CATCHY!
Also, Grenade is awesome.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Looking back on last December, I have to say I was happy then, but I'm even happier now.
thinner or fatter? Thinner. I gained a little weight before graduation, but I lost all of it plus a few pounds over the summer and I've kept it off. (P.S. Stress doesn't begin to cover my state of mind during the 5 weeks leading up to graduation. I suffer from Chronic Overachiever Syndrome and I while I pulled it off, my body did not appreciate lack of sleep.)
richer or poorer? Still poor haha

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercising and more focused writing time

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worried about what others thought of me. Haters are gonna hate and I wish I would just let them and not let it bother me or hurt my feelings.

How did you spend Christmas?
With my immediate family. They're lovely.

Did you fall in love in 2010?
Yes. Again and again.

What was your favorite TV program?
While Arrested Development, Bridezillas and Andy Griffith remain my all time favorites, J. L. and I watched all of the seasons of 30 Rock together so that made it special. Oh, and I loved the Jake season of the Bachelor. My friends and I loved to hate that guy!

What was the best book you read?
I love to read and read a lot so it's a really tough call...
I'd have to say either The Remains of the Day or The Things They Carried.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Florence and the Machine and Mumford and Son. Fabulous.

What did you do on your birthday?
Went to work and then had burgers and played games with 15 of my closest friends.  It was crazy, but it was perfect.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I'm with Becka. Winning the lottery.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Umm, my sister is my personal shopper and I wear whatever she says to wear, so I'd say Fashion a la Jennifer.

What kept you sane?
Jesus, J. L., Jennifer, Lauren, Donald Miller, Jane Austen

Who was the best new person you met?
Well, my favorite random person was a French aristocrat named Bernard. I met him at a party and he told me his fascinating life story, philosophy on what it means to be a man and complimented me for 2 hours. Also, I loved the ladies at my PR office while I worked there.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
God's timing is not my timing and I need to remember that His timing is better.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

2010 in the Rearview Mirror

2010 was a wonderful year. I LOVED it!
As a result, I'm so looking forward to 2011!
I have no idea what the future holds, but I look forward to it with humble anticipation.

Here are a few highlights from 2010:
Worked with some awesome people
I got my snazzy PowerShot
so I could take shots like this. Oh Oliver White, my precious baby.
Jennifer helped me study. She was a champ and I was more than pleased with my score! Hurray!
Love them
Our first Valentine's Day!

Craig asked me to pick out my friend Laura's engagement ring!
Shane Co took good care of us!
I also dyed my hair red and got bangs... I was over that VERY quickly.

Isn't he handsome? I melt.

John Mayer
The Nashville Flood
THE Grand Old Opry. So sad, but I was so encouraged by the neighborly love we Nashvillians showed when we put aside our personal lives to help each other out.

Graduated from Belmont!

World Cup at LP Field... we rooted for the wrong team the whole time and were SO embarrassed!

Bachelorette Weekend
Went to a Hanson concert. FYI they STILL have it!

Met Donald Miller

Move in with my sister

Went to my VERY FIRST football game: Titans v. Broncos
Normally I root for the Titans, but since I'm from Colorado and still love it I was happy for the Broncos to win!

Turned 23

...and I made an AWESOME cake with lemon filling. Yum!
Took the LSAT... got a good score... took it again... got a better score... and decided I don't want to go to law school... at ALL.
Picture: stress and lack of sleep.

Laura and Craig got married and I was a bridesmaid
So blessed by her friendship.

Went to the World of Coke... and have yet to upload the pictures from my sister's camera!

Did a little pumpkin carving
Yeah, that's right. It's a dachshund. I'm crafty.

Got an awesome job! I start January 3rd and I'm really looking forward to it!
Picture me jumping up and down. :)
Thanksgiving with the family
It was my finest gastronomic creation to date.

Ran a 5k
Look at my beautiful sister and awesome dad!

Jennifer's Birthday

Went to prison

Moved to my own apartment! It's huge, but I miss my sister as a roomie!

Looking at my list I feel like neither it nor my pictures even begin to cover the sheer, nearly heart bursting joy as well as the triumph in the obstacles overcome.

What I couldn't document in a simple list:
Warm conversations among friends
Late night coffee/tea dates with best friends
Countless hugs and kisses
Belly laughs
Wonderful songs
Delicious shared meals

Here's to 2010 and here's to the New Year!
What was your favorite 2010 moment?

Last year's words belong to last year's language, next year's words await another voice and to make an end is to make a beginning. - T. S. Eliot

Home for Christmas

I hope you had a wonderful, family-filled Christmas!
We were grateful to have a beautiful white blanket of snow for Christmas!
It rarely snows in Nashville and it was just perfect.
I'm hanging out with my family and watching Sound of Music, but I thought I'd share a few detail shots from Christmas while I was just sitting here.

Have a blessed day!

Santa Claus is COMING TO TOWN

I hope you've been good all year!

I feel I've been pretty good, but my sister and I made these and put them out...
you know...
just in case.

Merry Christmas!
Jesus is born!!

God bless you!

Oh Holy Night

I love Christmas. I love trees and ornaments, snow, twinkling lights, spending more time with family and friends, presents, mittens and coats, Christmas cookies, candle light services, everything. I love literally everything about Christmas (well, not the glorification of commercial goods, but you know what I mean.) However, there is one thing I love more--the reason for the season--celebrating the birth of Jesus.

I know some of you may not be "religious," although I wouldn't consider my faith/relationship religious either, but I just want to put it out there that I feel like Jesus literally and sincerely changed my life and I am SO happy to take this time to commemorate the birth of our Lord.

In addition to salvation, I believe that God has come so that we might know what it means to love one another in a radical way. I know the church has messed it up (as it is full of human beings, not perfected beings), but I feel like this simple verse of O Holy Night has meant so much to me through the years and as I've worked with victims of poverty, trafficking and other evils, I've seen with my own eyes and personally experienced the difference Jesus makes in a life.

Truly He taught us to love one another,

His law is love and His gospel is peace.

Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.

And in his name all oppression shall cease.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,

With all our hearts we praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,

His power and glory ever more proclaim!

His power and glory ever more proclaim!

I know it's not easy to make it through life without serious doubts as I have had my fair share of them. However, today, let me offer the opportunity to you to set aside questions for a moment, whoever you are and wherever you are in your spiritual journey or in life, and just sit a moment and consider the possibility of a Being who not only created you, but is crazy about you. I believe Jesus is wildly, passionately, unconditionally, forever in love with you, no matter who you are, where you're from or what you've done. (BSB anyone?) While you (or I) may not fully understand Him or even that love, I believe that He came to us as a lowly baby to serve us so that we may know love and so that we may have life everlasting with Him in a perfect world.

Merry Christmas and God bless you!

Last minute gifts

I found these mini lasagnas and thought they were so cute!

And isn't this fun?
You can get it at Bed, Bath & Beyond!

Alright, enough fun.
Tomorrow is moving day!
Say a prayer and wish me luck!

Christmas Time!

This week has been INCREDIBLY busy.
Between finishing my job at the PR firm, Christmas parties, training at the new job and packing to move on Tuesday I've been running, running, running.
However, thankfully I have wonderful friends and a wonderful boyfriend who keep me sane and manage to get me out and have some fun.
Sweet J. L. and I went to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel to walk around and enjoy the lights!
After a lovely dinner at Burger Up! we enjoyed Christmas songs on the radio and drove up to the Opryland.
I feel Buddy the Elf would approve of this tree!

As we walked around we talked about favorite Christmas memories and what we want to happen by next Christmas. We even ran into a few friends!
I LOVE Christmas lights. There's something so magical about them.
Afterwards we enjoyed a late night dessert at Sunset Grill.
I think apple crisp a la mode is the perfect way to end a perfect date.

Our dear friend Jason works for the Predators and gave Jennifer tickets to last night's game for her birthday!
Although I always thought I'd hate hockey because I thought it was too violent, I completely changed my mind the first time attended a game. While I don't know all of the rules, it's not that hard to figure out and when you're there with the other fans it's really fun.

 Our mascot, Gnash!

So, the lights kind of washed us out, but oh well!

The game was really fun and the Preds won!
Also, we were on the JUMBOTRON! How cool, huh?
